Back on the tourist track
I arrived in Pucón and who are the first people I see in my new hostel? The english couple I shared a cab with yesterday morning from the Navimag to the Puerto Montt bus station! Ha.
I´m starting to feel fat (Chillenos nor Argentines eat very healthy, creo) so today I rented a bike and rode around 40 km. 22 km up/down on dirt roads, rad, and then the last 19 back on the highway to the town. Well, it was supposed to be 40 km but I got a flat near the end and ended up hitchhiking back. The guy didn´t speak english, so we kind of talked about Obama. He let me out on the outskirts of town, so I still had a 40-50 minute walk back. Bueno!
I can´t really afford the guided trek up Volcan Villaricca, so instead tomorrow I´m going horseback riding. I figure just hiking on my own will likely cost about the same por que los autobusses y the park entrance fees (but you can´t do the volcano on your own). So, fuck it. This horse thing includes mapuche food (I had an amazing mapuche vegetariano meal in Temuco and I think it was my favorite meal so far, probably in part because, with tip and beer, it cost about $5). (I will probably eat meat tomorrow).
I´ve decided not to feel bad about being on the tourist track. I will get to a farm… or I will plan a trip to New Zealand where their wwoof network is apparently really fluid.
