i have been internet quite for a few days
because i have been on a farm in Metri, near Puerto Montt, sin internet, agua caliente, refrigeration, etc. running water: check, from the lagoon. it{s a little brown. i can{t figure out how to make the possessive sign so please deal with the {. ps the water tastes good though. light: yes, each room has a lightbulb. heat: there is a stove but it{s never cold enough to need to build a fire fresh vegetables: lettuces, cabbages, cilantro, chives, fingerling potatos (native to la isla grande Chiloé OMG i just found ´ thank god), elephant garlic (i never ever want to harvest this stuff again), onions, blackberries, fava beans, snap peas, peas, and other stuff that isn´t ready for harvest yet. anyway, it was a good few days there, with a couple french girls who spoke great english but also great spanish, leaving me often with my own thoughts because i would get tired of saying ´¿que?´ everytime they´d be in conversation with the farm jefe, sergio. there were rats, however, that weren´t in the house, but rather in the walls, and you could hear them all night and through the evening. it was a little unnerving. i watched the 9 pm news the day ofthe inauguration, and the house of the grandparents of the farm owner (the whole family lives in various houses on the farm) with another american girl who had just arrived. they played only snippets of obama´s speech, but they subtitled it rather than dubbed, which was beneficial for me (and i´m sure for his speech in general). i can´t wait to come home and see the full speech on youtube, or get somewhere with wifi and watch it on my phone. i´m headed to Valparasio, Viña del Mar, and finally Santiago where I fly out of. The fishermen have finally written me back and I will meet them next week in Valpo. There are obnoxious people in this internet café, i gotta get out of here. ciao miss you.
